In Zen philosophy, kensho is a state of awakening comparable to a baby taking a few faltering steps and falling down, confused but exhilarated by the effort. It is a temporary taste of satori, the permanent state of enlightenment comparable to the baby finally learning to walk.

Zen poetry seeks to surprise the listener with the illustration of incongruous 'miracles', designed to surprise one into a momentary kensho.

When I was taking the photo that became the background of this piece in Winnipeg ’s North End, a pleasant fellow who staggered across the field of view told me “If you take my picture, I’ll kill you”. I put the camera down til he went inside the hotel.

Artwork for the four levels of the "Lucid Driving" Flash game, developed by TACTICA. The maps are based on Winnipeg's downtown core area - the streets between Joel's fictional office on Garry Street and Sophie's suicidal highrise on Hargrave, the setting of the film. Obstacles are animated, so when you drive your car into them, they fall apart or damage is otherwise inflicted.
